One Cannot Please Everybody
Birjoo was an old man. He had a son named Kisnoo. They lived in a village. One day the father and the son started on a journey. They had a donkey. They sat on their donkey. They passed through a road. Suddenly some people laughed at them. They said, “How cruel they are ! Two men on a poor donkey ! They do not have any sense !” The old man heard it
and got down from the donkey. Kisnoo alone sat on the donkey. They moved on.
After going a little distance, some people remarked, “Look at the boy. He is sitting and the old father is walking on foot. He has no sympathy for his old father !” The son heard this and got down. Birjoo now rode on the donkey. They moved ahead.
A crowd of people were standing by the road. They saw them and said, “How funny the old man is ! The little weak boy is walking and the old man is enjoying a ride. How cruel he is !” Hearing this the old man felt sorry. So the old man got down. The father and the son now walked on foot behind the donkey.
After some time, again a few people laughed at them and said, “What a fool they are ! They have a donkey. Still they are going on foot.” Birjoo and Kisnoo felt very sorry. They did not know what to do.
The story conveys a lesson – “One who wants to please everybody can please nobody.”
