Sub : Indiscriminate use of plastic bags
Sir,
I shall be highly obliged to you if you kindly allow me a little space in your esteemed daily to express my concern over the indiscriminate use of plastic bags in our state.
The use of harmful plastic bags has become very common across our state. These have almost completely replaced the containers and bags made either of paper or jute. plastic becomes harmful. The littering of plastic bags in open places creates unhygienic conditions. It acts as a breeding ground for insects and mosquitoes that cause diseases like malaria and dengue. Plastic is a non-degradable product. So plastic bags stay in the soil for many years and affect soil fertility and degrade the soil quality. Plastics enter the drainage and sewerage system and they block the pipes and the drains and cause waterlogging. Plastic food packets scatter on roads and open spaces. When animals eat those plastic food packets, they cause stomach and intestine related diseases which even lead to suffocation and death. The waste from the plastic manufacturing industry is thrown directly into the water bodies. Thus water becomes poisonous and harmful.
I hope this will draw the prompt attention of the government to take effective measures to control such indiscriminate use of plastic bags in our state.
